AI Technology and Bias in Detecting Psychiatric Disorders
In this article, I examined why AI-powered diagnostic technology is prone to misdiagnose Black men with a schizoaffective disorder solely based on their ethnicity label. I analyzed the data that powers the Natural Language Systems and Neural Networks behind the diagnostic technology in hopes of educating a larger audience on the bias integrated into the Large Language Models (LLMs) that work to power modern diagnostic technology.
This article was selected and featured in numerous International publications, including the Volume 9 of the University of Michigan’s Undergraduate Journal of Public Health and Teens In Health’s Neuroscience x AI Medical Research Journal.
